My Credit Cards – January 2020

What cards do I use and how? Here is my Credit Card plan. This isn’t necessarily the best plan for you, but it works for me and my family.

My cards fall into two categories: cards we use for everyday spend and cards we put very little spend on but keep for the perks. Note I have a mix of small business cards and personal cards.

Cards for Everyday Spend

These are the cards we put the bulk of our spend on. Here is how we use them and what multipliers they give us.

  • Chase – Sapphire Reserve
    • Restaurants – 3x
    • Travel – 3x
  • AMEX – Everyday Preferred
    • Groceries – 4.5x
    • Gas – 3x
    • Everything else – 1.5x (make sure we use the card 30 times a month to get the extra .5 multiplier)
  • Chase – Freedom
    • special 5x bonus categories each quarter
  • Chase – Ink Business Cash (Small Business card)
    • internet – 5x
    • office supplies store – 5x
  • Chase – Ink Business Unlimited (Small Business card)
    • general business spend – 1.5x

You can see that this is generally my three card combo recomendation.

The following cards we put very little spend on, but we keep for the great perks they give us year after year.

    • Use for Hyatt spend
    • Yearly Hyatt reward night
  • Chase – IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card

  • AMEX – Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant
